PRIMARY PURPOSE :
The Director of Technology and Innovation is responsible for leading, planning, implementing, and managing the district's technology initiatives and systems. This position ensures that the district's technological resources support student learning, teacher effectiveness, and administrative efficiency. The Director of Technology and Innovation will collaborate with district and school leadership, staff, students, and external partners to foster innovation, improve the educational experience, and ensure the security, reliability, and accessibility of all technology systems across the district.

- Reports to the Assistant Superintendent
- This position directly supervises the employees in the Technology Department
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Strategic Planning & Leadership :
Develop and implement a comprehensive district technology plan aligned with district goals and educational objectives. Proactively collaborate with school leadership and departments to assess technology needs and provide guidance on effective use of technology in classrooms and administration.Evaluate emerging technologies, including the role of AI, and recommend best practices for integrating innovative solutions into the district's operations and instructional practices.Lead and support technology committees, providing professional development opportunities for staff and ongoing training on new tools.Oversee and direct technology staff to support the operations of the district.2. Technology Infrastructure Management :
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the district's network infrastructure, including hardware, software, and connectivity services.Ensure the district's IT infrastructure is secure, reliable, and scalable to meet the needs of a growing and diverse student population.Manage procurement and lifecycle management of technology hardware, software, and cloud services.Ensure proper integration of educational technologies, including the student information system (SIS), learning management systems (LMS), digital classrooms, and other teaching tools.3. Data & Security Management :
Develop and enforce policies regarding the security, confidentiality, and integrity of student and staff data.Monitor and manage cybersecurity protocols to protect district data and networks.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to data privacy and security (e.g., FERPA, CIPA). Coordinate district-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plans for technology infrastructure.4. Budget & Resource Management :
Manage the technology department's budget, including hardware, software, and personnel resources.Identify cost-effective solutions and potential funding opportunities (grants, partnerships, etc.) to support technology initiatives.Oversee the purchase, installation, and maintenance, and distribution of all technology equipment, software, and services.5. Professional Development & Support :
Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, and support staff in the use of educational technology.Develop and implement a district-wide technology support strategy, including helpdesk services and troubleshooting.Act as the primary point of contact for all technology-related issues within the district, offering technical guidance and solutions.6. Communication & Collaboration :
Act as a liaison between the district and external technology vendors and partners.Ensure open communication channels between district leadership and school staff regarding technology updates, challenges, and opportunities.Engage with the community to promote digital literacy, share resources, and build understanding of the district's technology goals.7. Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
Relevant work experience requiredTechnology related certification(s) preferredCOGNITIVE / COMMUNICATION ABILITIES :
Strong understanding of K-12 educational technology trends, digital learning tools, and best practices and the ability to implement them.Excellent knowledge of network systems, cloud services, hardware, software, cybersecurity, and data management. Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues efficiently.Proven experience in technology project management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.Ability to think strategically and innovate while balancing operational and resource constraints.Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to manage multiple prioritiesFamiliarity with relevant laws and regulations regarding student privacy, including FERPA and COPPA.Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of IT professionals. Experience in fostering a collaborative, solution-oriented culture within a technology department.Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff, co-workers and outside professional contacts.PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
