Position Summary
The Graduate Assistant of Recreation Services is a member of the Upper Iowa University Athletic Department and reports to the Assistant AD for Campus Recreation/Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach. This position is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations regarding leadership, management, administration/oversight of all programs and activities of the campus recreation department and the university recreation center.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist in the leadership and management of campus recreation center functions, operations, activities, etc.
- Advises and provides recommendations to the Assistant AD for Campus Recreation/Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach on matters related to campus recreation.
- Advises and provides recommendations to the Assistant AD for Campus Recreation/Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach on matters related to student and employee wellness.
- Schedule and manage all intramural activities including day tournaments and league play.
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of the campus recreation center, outdoor pursuits, intramurals, club sports, and other events held at the Recreation Center.
- Recommend and assist in the long-term and short-term goals of campus recreation center.
- Assist in the day-to-day management, scheduling, and operation of the campus recreation center.
- Recommend and assist in the development, implementation, management, and control of the campus recreation budget.
- Assist in the inventory and management of supplies and equipment.
- Assist in the promotion and supervision of campus recreational programs.
- Instruct recreational and fitness classes as needed.
- Teach a group fitness instructor training program for student trainers.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) conference, and University rules, policies, etc. relating to the recreational program.
- Work collaboratively with other campus departments and other schools to promote intramural and recreation-based programs.
- Serve on university committees as assigned.
- Select, hire, train, supervise and evaluate intramural officials, scorekeepers, and other staff.
- Other duties as directed and assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must be admitted into a graduate program at Upper Iowa University and maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree.
- Registration for the minimum number of required credits for an assistantships held during the term (the minimum number of required hours is three hours per term).
- Acceptance letter into a graduate program.
- Strong communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office.
- Nights and weekends availability.
- Ability to obtain Class D Chauffer license (Iowa, U.S.)

- 10-month renewable contract
- Monthly stipend ($1,000)
- Includes coverage of fees for master's degree
