ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA) is a regional water reclamation plant serving four jurisdictions (Fairfax County, Prince William County, City of Manassas, and City of Manassas Park).
RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will be responsible for performing a wide variety of routine tasks involving installation, maintenance (preventive, predictive and corrective), operation, inspection, repair and troubleshooting of heavy-duty sewage treatment facilities and mobile and special purpose equipment; may be exposed to a wastewater biological and chemical hazardous environment and the hazards of rotating equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
Mechanic II will perform a wide variety of skilled tasks in maintaining and repairing mobile, and special purpose equipment as well as sewage treatment equipment. Work requires the operation of machinery in addition to servicing, repairing and maintaining equipment. Assignments are received in the form of oral and written instruction which may be accompanied by blueprints, sketches, and simple diagrams. Works with limited direction of a Mechanic I or the supervision of the Mechanical Systems Manager or Lead Mechanic, who assigns and checks work for completeness.
The Mechanic III is responsible for performing tasks of progressively increasing difficulty in the maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment. The work requires making mechanical adjustments and repairs to industrial equipment and vehicles. Assignments may be performed in conjunction with Mechanic I or II assignments and may involve tasks to be learned on the job. Work is performed under the direction of a Mechanic I or II, or the supervision of the Mechanical System Manager or Lead Mechanics, who assigns work and checks completion.
The incumbent must have some knowledge of principles and practices of mechanical maintenance and repair; knowledge of the mechanical parts and functions of mobile and special purpose equipment; ability to make minor repairs and mechanical adjustments; skill in lubricating industrial on above-cited equipment. Must possess a mechanical aptitude.
The Mechanic Trainee will perform under immediate instruction / supervision of Mechanics I and II, as directed by the Mechanical Systems Manager or Lead Mechanics. A Mechanic Trainee gains on-the-job experience as tasks of increasing difficulty are assigned. Must successfully pass the hands-on test requirements for Mechanic III within one year for continued employment.
