We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Homeless Shelter Associate to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing direct support to shelter guests, ensuring a safe and clean environment, and assisting with the daily operations of the shelter.
Overview
We currently have a 24 hr/week 2nd shift (4:00 pm – 12:30 am) position available in our Hixon Adult shelter which houses up to 20 individuals. The schedule is Wednesday-Friday with a possibility of 32 hr/week with the addition of one 1st shift (8:00 am – 4:30 pm) on Saturdays.
Shelter staff assist guests and visitors with a variety of needs, facilitate daily operations, conduct rounds on campus, and ensure the environment is safe, clean, and welcoming. They are able to build positive and supportive relationships and are respectful and accepting of people facing challenges in their lives. Reliability and punctuality are vitally important to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter.

Compensation
The pay rate for this position is $21.00 per hour.
Schedule: 24 hours/week, 4:00 pm to 12:30 am, Wednesday-Friday with possibility of 32 hours/week with the addition of one Saturday 1st shift, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Responsibilities
- Ensure shelter spaces including offices are safe, clean, and welcoming
- Provide support to guests and welcome vendors and volunteers to the space shelter
- Perform shelter management activities including but not limited to: meal preparation and service; laundry; turnover of guest rooms; restocking supplies; custodial tasks; clearing snow and sanding paths; completing guest orientation; providing access to medications; programmatic offerings
- Conduct rounds on campus
- Complete written documentation of events at the end of the shift
- Coordinate with other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter
- Attend team meetings and regular clinical supervision
Requirements

- Comfortable serving dinner to up to 20 adults while maintaining food safety standards

- Must be able to bend, move about, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Valid driver’s license and driving record as specified in the Haven Vehicle Use Policy though off-site driving would be rare in this role
Experience & Education
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services or similar field preferred
- Previous experience working in a shelter or social services setting preferred
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (will train if needed)
