Financial Counselor - bilingual preferred

Pay rate : $18.81-$28.44
Shift : Monday through Friday

As part of the Financial Counseling team at Uptown you will meet with a wide range of patients from our 3 clinic face to face. You will help patients by screening for our Sliding Fee Discount Program, potential Medicaid eligibility, assisting with the application process through determination, providing education regarding the Affordable Care Act and assisting with navigation through the marketplace.
Role Specific Duties
- Meets with patients and screens for potential Medicaid / State Public Benefit eligibility according to state-based guidelines. completes and submits appropriate applications to the Department of Human Services or MA Site as applicable. Follow up through determination.
- Educates patients about the Affordable Care Act, including potential eligibility during both open enrollment and in the situation of the qualifying events. Explains qualified health plans, essential health benefits, differences in plan affordability, premium tax credits, and cost-sharing. Assists individuals navigating through the web-based State or Federal Marketplace
- Meets with patients to review and process financial assistance applications. Ensures completeness, verifies supporting documentation, and determines eligibility.
- Schedules and meets with patients for Sliding Fee Discount Program determination. Processes financial assistance application requests. Verifies that information supplied by patients is complete and accurate, ensuring completeness, verifying supporting documents, and determining eligibility for financial assistance / charity.
Certification :
CAC certification (Certified Application Counselor) and CAAS certification (Certified Application Assistant Site) is required upon hire or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
Qualifications : Required :
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Preferred :
One (1) year experience in healthcare
Experience with Epic application and health record.
Experience working with and sensitivity toward special populations, including those with limited income, limited education, and non-English speaking individuals.
Bilingual English / Spanish, complete comprehension, literacy, and fluency in both languages.
Salary : $19 - $28
