The Urban Land Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and education organization supported by its members. Founded in 1936, the Institute has more than 45,000 members worldwide representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines, working in private enterprise and public service. As the preeminent, multidisciplinary real estate forum, ULI facilitates the open exchange of ideas, information, and experience among local, regional, national, and international industry leaders and policy makers dedicated to creating better places. POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Executive Director, working in close coordination with District Council members, directs all aspects of coordinating programs and developing marketing and communications strategies for membership involvement and sponsorship support toward the advancement of goals and objectives of the District Council. Close working relationship with District Chair for local reporting and responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Develops, refines, and implements a comprehensive sponsorship program that engages the sponsorship committee in securing financial support to sustain the District Council activities, and a plan that incorporates efforts to maintain and service District Council sponsors to encourage renewals and long-term sponsorship.
  • Develops and implements a program of work for the District Council pursuant to the Strategic Plan that provides for clear outcomes and methods to measure success in achieving said outcomes or results.
  • Directing the planning and implementation of the District Council’s program of work including, subject to market factors
    1. Programs and events throughout the region focused on, among other subjects: Real Estate Trends, Sustainability/Decarbonization and Net Zero, Housing, Infrastructure, Capital Markets, and Industry Diversity Equity Inclusion Efforts 
    2. Local Product Councils: Market, Capital Markets, Community Development, Resilient Communities, and Housing, with the potential to expand.
    3. Young Leaders Group Programs and Events 
    4. NEXT, a mid-career cohort for multi-disciplinary professionals
    5. Educational programming, including the Real Estate Diversity Initiative (REDI) and Building a Foundation, a real estate 101 course for professionals.
    6. UrbanPlan Program, an introduction to key concepts in the built environment that can be tailored to Public Officials or High School and College students.
    7. Local Technical Advisory Panels, which support local governments in working through place-based or policy challenges facing their communities.
  • Oversee all budgets and track expenses and revenues for the District Council and by programs, events, solicitations, etc.
  • Lead and manage multiple volunteer committees to develop and meet goals and objectives for programs/community outreach, membership involvement and sponsorship support.
  • Coordinate small and large networking and educational programs/events.
  • Oversee all logistics for securing speakers, venues, vendors, onsite staffing, handling transportation, print and digital marketing collateral, photography, A/V, signage, and insurance, etc. for programs and events.
  • Handle all related financial and administrative tasks.
  • Develop and maintain program calendar.
  • Manage, create and/or update all marketing and communications for the District Council, including, but not limited to, the local District Council website, social media newsletters, membership directories, press releases, and an annual report.
  • Take, approve, and distribute minutes of all District Council executive committee and committee meetings.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the Director will assist with the coordination of other District Council responsibilities related to staffing committees, leads strategic planning sessions; and creating budgets and recertification plans for yearly review. The Director works directly with ULI members and vendors, especially the District Council Chair, members of the Executive Committee, and members of committees. Develop and maintain relationships with local nonprofits, public agencies, community leaders, local universities, and other related professional groups.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10 years of experience in local real estate and land use, community relations and/or nonprofit administration preferred.  Experience in events planning helpful.  BA degree strongly desired. Degree in urban planning, public administration, or real estate development a plus. 
  • Proven ability to grow and maintain sponsorship and membership base. 
  • Strong champion and advocate for initiatives, programs and strategies that improve racial equity in the community and organization. Demonstrated cultural competence and experience with supporting and advancing racial equity and inclusion. An exceptional listener with a high level of interpersonal awareness.
  • Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm for community partnerships and engagement. Established cross sector relationships and collaboration is a plus. 
  • Familiarity with real estate terms/concepts or awareness of local government and urban planning/design topics a plus.
  • Experienced in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Strong collaborative leader with an approachable management style. Able to coach others and communicates well.
  • Professional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to work with senior business and public sector executives.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Photoshop or graphic design skills a plus.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience working with and managing volunteers.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, to handle multiple tasks concurrently and completely, with responsible follow-through.

US Base Pay Range Dependent upon experience

$123,000—$136,000 USD
