What are the responsibilities and job description for the GEAR UP District Coordinator position at Urbana Middle School?
Urbana School District #116
TITLE: GEAR UP District Coordinator
LOCATION: Urbana Middle School
SUPERVISOR: GEAR UP Project Director and Building Principal or Designee
JOB SUMMARY:
Position Description:
- The GEAR UP Coordinator delivers, manages, and monitors all GEAR UP-related activities for both the middle and high school. Coordinators will be trained by ISAC staff on the legislative background and requirements, best practices for implementation, and other aspects of the Illinois PaCE framework. The GEAR UP Coordinator position is structured around student and parent service delivery related to PaCE benchmarks from 6th-12th grade.
- The GEAR UP Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to ensure program data is being entered into the GEAR UP student database. Data must be entered to track all interactions with cohort and priority students. Activities requiring data entry include but are not limited to:
- Curriculum facilitation, homework check-ins, classroom presentations, one-on-one advising, subgrant funded activities, educational field trips, and parent/primary caregiver meetings.
- Middle School Service Responsibilities: The GEAR UP Coordinator facilitates or, if approved by the GEAR UP Project Director, can provide direct support to the classroom facilitator of the PaCE Curriculum for middle school students. If the GEAR UP Coordinator is the classroom facilitator, there will be an instructional element to this role. If the coordinator only provides support, resources and oversight to a middle school staff member facilitating the curriculum to students, there is an expectation that the GEAR UP Coordinator will initiate consistent and on-going communication with the facilitator to ensure implementation integrity and accurate data entry.
- High School Service Responsibilities: The GEAR UP Coordinator works with students directly to meet the benchmarks of the PaCE framework. This includes but is not limited to classroom presentations, family information and advising nights, career exploration activities, and college visits. The coordinator also has the option to partner with a local ISACorps member. If the ISACorps member is providing direct service to students, there is an expectation that the GEAR UP Coordinator will initiate consistent and on-going communication to ensure implementation integrity and accurate data entry.
- The GEAR UP Coordinator organizes, promotes, and hosts quarterly evening events for parents. The target audience can be middle school parents, high school parents or both. Attendance information must be collected from students and parents at these events.
- The GEAR UP Coordinator supports the administrative teams at both schools in developing and submitting annual subgrant requests to District Director for purchasing additional items that would benefit students and enhance the services provided by GEAR UP.
School Responsibilities:
- GEAR UP schools will collaborate with their partner middle or high school to determine time spent at each school. The GEAR UP Coordinator needs to perform the duties above, but the way those standards are met will be largely determined by school preferences and based on the availability of students to participate in activities and other forms of engagement.
- GEAR UP schools will include the GEAR UP Coordinator in large and small team staff meetings (as deemed appropriate by District Director) in order to integrate the GEAR UP program into school culture and build awareness of GEAR UP program activities.
