The Sustainability Science and Innovation (SSI) team is seeking an Applied Scientist to advance the Sustainability Data Initiative (SDI). In this role, you will develop Client machine learning algorithms and solutions to address complex sustainability challenges. You will conduct foundational research and development in areas such as natural language processing, computer vision, and machine learning to create innovative approaches for sustainability data analysis and modeling. You will be responsible for pushing the boundaries of current technological capabilities while ensuring practical applications that drive meaningful impact across our client's sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Data Modeling & Analysis : Develop and maintain statistical and ML models (including LLM-based approaches) to understand demand signals for sustainability-related datasets.Data Acquisition & Management : Conduct data scraping, cleaning, and preparation tasks to ensure high-quality inputs for modeling and analysis.Information Extraction : Leverage NLP / LLM techniques to uncover relevant signals from textual data, scientific reports, and other unstructured information sources.Collaboration & Communication : Work closely with cross-functional teams-including data engineers, software developers, and sustainability scientists-to identify data needs, define modeling requirements, and share insights with stakeholders.Continuous Improvement : Stay updated with emerging data science methods, ML / LLM technologies, and sustainability datasets to continuously improve ASDI's data and analytical capabilities.Basic Qualifications
Masters degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent experience).Experience coding in at least one major programming language (e.g., Python).Hands-on experience with applying machine learning concepts including LLMs to practical problems.Proven ability to handle, process, and derive insights from structured and unstructured datasets.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to non-technical audiences.Preferred Qualifications
PhD degree in a relevant field or equivalent hands-on experience.Exposure to large language models, NLP techniques, or data scraping frameworks.Hands-on experience with AWS tools and services (e.g., Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, Amazon SageMaker) or other cloud providers.Demonstrated interest or experience in sustainability, environmental science, or climate solutions.Experience in building dashboards or visualizations (e.g., Tableau, QuickSight, or similar).bility to work independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment while prioritizing multiple tasks.IND123
