What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Aid (Lifeguard) NF-01 position at US Army Installation Management Command?
Duties
- Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager. Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests. Maintains daily logs, reports and records as required.
- Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
- Assists in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21 or with American Red Cross swim lessons. Participates in required training (on-the-job training emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations).
- Assists in maintaining pool and area clean and free from hazards. Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures.
- Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules and follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions. Assists in coaching or preparing the competitive and non-competitive swimming programs as required.

- Fifteen (15) year old lifeguards must comply with the restriction of the DOL Child Labors Law (Jan 17, 2006).
- Must be available to accept varying and/or rotating shifts to include nights, weekends and holiday.
- May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
- Lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
- In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
- Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
- This position is dual compensation exempt; All GS and NAF employees holding FLEX positions are eligible to apply for this position.
- Position also requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Must have current health assessment which documents good physical health, and free from communicable disease IAW current Army Policy.
- Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
Qualifications
- Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA or ELLIS)
- American Red Cross Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED)
- First Aid
Highly Preferred Criteria:
1. Possess a Waterfront Lifeguard Certification
The certification must be reflected on your resume and your certification uploaded at the time of application to be considered a highly preferred candidate.

PCS Costs
- Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
- This is a pay-banded position.
- Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
- Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.
