Job Summary:
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Engine Rebuilder to join our production team. The Engine Rebuilder is responsible for the complete process of disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, and reassembling automotive and/or diesel engines according to precise specifications. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, in-depth knowledge of internal combustion engines, proficiency with measuring tools, and a commitment to quality control throughout the entire build process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Completely disassemble automotive and/or diesel engines, carefully organizing and identifying components.
- Thoroughly clean engine blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons, and other components using various cleaning methods (parts washers, hot tanks, etc.).
- Perform detailed inspections of all engine parts, checking for cracks, wear, warping, and other damage.
- Accurately measure critical components (cylinder bores, crankshaft journals, bearing clearances, etc.) using precision instruments like micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and calipers.
- Identify required machine work and coordinate with the machine shop department.
- Select and install appropriate replacement parts such as bearings, pistons, rings, gaskets, seals, valves, and timing components.
- Assemble engines meticulously according to manufacturer specifications, torque sequences, build sheets, and established quality standards.
- Verify critical clearances and tolerances during assembly (e.g., bearing clearances, ring end gaps, piston-to-wall clearance, camshaft end play, valve lash).
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization in the engine assembly area.
- Keep accurate records of parts used, measurements taken, and assembly procedures for each engine build.
- Assist with final quality checks and potentially engine testing/prep.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of [4] years of hands-on experience specifically in rebuilding/assembling automotive and/or diesel engines.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using precision measuring tools (micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge of internal combustion engine theory, components, and assembly procedures.
- Ability to read and accurately follow technical manuals, specification sheets, and work orders.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, reliable engines.
- Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work systematically and maintain organization throughout the build process.
- Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy engine components (with appropriate assistance) and work in a shop environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of a vocational/technical program in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, or Engine Rebuilding/Machining.
- ASE Certification(s) in Engine Repair (A1), Diesel Engines (T2, L2, or similar), and/or Engine Machinist (M1, M2, M3).
- Experience rebuilding a diverse range of engines (e.g., gasoline, light-duty diesel, heavy-duty diesel, performance).
- Familiarity with specific engine brands relevant to our business [Optional: List specific brands like Cummins, CAT, Ford Power Stroke, Duramax, etc.].
- Basic engine machining skills.
- Experience with engine testing or dynamometer operation.
