Hydrologic Technician – 180 Day Field Assistant GG-1316-03/04/05

Are you interested in helping answer critical questions about water in the west and gain valuable work experience? The U.S. Geological Survey Utah Water Science Center (https://www.usgs.gov/centers/utah-water-science-center) has several openings to hire 180-day Hydrologic Technicians (field assistants) to assist with multiple hydrogeologic studies in the State of Utah.
The duty-station is in Salt Lake City/West Valley City, UT. Duties performed by this position include various tasks and can be tailored based on the applicant’s skillset. Potential duties could include:
1) collection and computation of water and sediment data for hydrologic studies,
2) organization and archiving of water quality and sediment samples,
3) data management and analysis (utilizing tools such as ArcGIS, R, Python)
AND/OR
4) general assistance with field preparation and sampling efforts.
The position will also assist with other project related work assessing hydrogeologic conditions throughout the State of Utah. Employment under this position is temporary and may not exceed 180 working days in a service year.

The position is offered at the GG-03, -04 , and -05 grade levels; qualified candidates will have either:
- GG-03: 3 months field party experience OR 1 year sub-professional experience OR *6 months college study related to field of work.
- GG-04: 6 months field party experience OR 2 years sub-professional experience OR *1 year college study related to field of work.
- GG-05: 9 months field party experience OR 3 years sub-professional experience OR *3 years college study related to field of work plus 3 months of lab or field work experience.
