Responsibilities
Technically direct biomed and application teams in the maintenance, troubleshooting, deployment and upgrading of medical equipment and software; expands biomedical capabilities, establishes collaborative relationships with clinical and business leaders, works with IT leadership on operational and strategic planning, enforces organizational & department policies, and other duties as assigned by the CIO, directors, and the Manager of End User and Biomedical Technologies; knowledge of basic medical terminology, electro-mechanical and electronic fundamentals, medical equipment/software function/operation, medical equipment/software troubleshooting; understands clinical workflows, troubleshooting echniques, and build techniques withing the electronic medical records (EHR) systems; integrates medical equipment with EHRs; investigates potential enhancements and upgrades to current medical equipment and software to increase efficiency and ensure patient care and safety; works with outside vendors to learn about potential new equipment and software; works on complex, multi-step EHR builds requiring technical knowledge; investigates new functionality within organizational EHRs and troubleshoot complex issues; works with fellow IT techs along with clinical staff on a day-to-day basis; conducts presentations on potential equipment upgrades, purchases, and replacements; supervises staff in installation, maintenance, and repair of communications systems including telephone, voice mail, pagers, hospital public address, and pneumatic tube systems; assists in development, implementation, and revision of policies and procedures related to JCAHO and hospital standards; assists the CIO with developing and maintaining an IT and biomed system architecture that is fully integrated with core systems such as electronic medical records, user directory services, and data warehouses; strong knowledge of user directories (e.g., Active Directory), endpoint security, Internet of Things (loT), and medical device cybersecurity; understands and implements IT and biomed strategic initiatives along with assisting the CIO with developing the IT Strategic Plan; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in information technology or computer science from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama; or a bachelor’s degree in business or related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and one year of computer programming or EHR build experience; or an Associate degree in computer programming, information technology, or related field with five years of computer programming or information technology experience.
