Responsibilities
The Manager, Network Services is responsibile for the day-to-day management of USA Health’s voice and data networking environments and utilizes digital and physical networking solutions to help deliver a reliable and secure network to the health system. The Manager is responsible for the USA Health voice and data network that spans for USA University Hospital (UH), USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital (C&W), Physicians Groups, Health Care Authority (HCA), Mitchell Cancer Institute (MCI) and USA Providence. The Manager manages the USA Health System network engineering personnel and technology to ensure proactive operational support is maintained for a consistent secure user experience with the CISO & Director, IT Infrastructure. He also responsible for managing all related infrastructure to mitigate unplanned outages and works with cross-functional IT teams to investigate root-cause to complex issues with their team and other managers in the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Design the strategic direction for the health systems network and network security infrastructure with the CISO & Director, IT Infrastructure.
- Responsible for overseeing the selection, development, deployment monitoring and maintenance of all of USA Health’s hospital and clinical data and voice networking infrastructure.
- Provide leadership, motivation, coaching, professional development, and day-to-day support to foster an engaged work environment with a focus on customer service.
- Responsible for working the Manager, Network Field Services, with the installation and management of all networking hardware to include Cisco Ethernet switches, wireless LAN controllers, fiber and network distribution plants needed for USA Health.
- Maintain network distribution connectivity between USA Health sites by routinely monitoring internal and external networks to ensure peak performance.
- Maintain the maintenance, configuration and security of the health system firewalls, VPN appliances.
- Oversee the operational and performance of the health system internet traffic and IP space. He will work with the Manager, Information Security and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in the maintaining the security and monitoring of these spaces.
- Oversee the commissioning of new points of presence, including cabinets, racks, AC and/or DC power systems, connectivity, and network and other electronic equipment with the Manager, Network Field Services.
- Ensure timely and enterprise-wide communication in the event of a major network and network security infrastructure-related outage with the CISO & Director, IT Infrastructure.
- Ensure that all critical network and network security infrastructure are up to the latest recommended patch level.
- Oversee the installation and maintenance of the network switch, cabling and fiber infrastructure with the Manager, Network Field Services, contracted vendor and internet service provider.
- Conduct root cause analysis of LAN/WAN network topology to prevent recurrences of network issues and identify potential process, technological or training improvements to ensure maximum network uptime and stability.
- Manage the relationships with the University Networking, Telecommunications, Technical Services groups and outside carrier vendors to provide functional services between the health system and the university and our customers.
- Responsible for overseeing special networking infrastructure and projects with the Manager, Telecommunications, Manager, Network Field Services and the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Director, IT Infrastructure to meet the needs of the health system.
- Oversee the monitoring of all networking gear and infrastructure equipment required to maintain, service, operate and improve network accessibility and survivability for the USA Health system network.
- Oversee the maintenance and service impacting work with the Manager, Telecommunications, Manager, Network Field Services and the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Director, IT Infrastructure.
- Must be able to carry a cell phone and respond promptly to occasional requests for assistance (24/7).
- Must have the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required. There will be some occasional travel is required to support the network hardware at all of USA Health’s hospitals and clinics.
- Oversee the voice and data network diagrams that outline the data flow documentation of USA Health’s network.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or post graduate degree from an accredited institution accepted by the University of South Alabama with major course work in computer science, or a degree in related business or clinical field. A minimum of five years’ experience working in a health solutions maintenance environment; two years of which includes the management of IT/Engineering personnel, and organizational security.
- Associate’s degree in computer science, networking or related field from an accredited institution accepted by the University of South Alabama and five years of experience in the networking or telecommunications field installing, managing and provide maintenance of large-scale data or voice networks, or a high school diploma and seven years of experience in the networking or telecommunications field installing, managing and provide maintenance of large-scale data or voice networks. Directly related experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Project management in the scheduling and deployment of new hardware and software systems preferred.
- Certification in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) methodology preferred
