Responsibilities
This is highly responsible and/or supervisory technical work administering radiation therapy treatments to patients as prescribed by a Radiologist. An employee in a position allocated to this classification is responsible for supervising and providing radiation therapy treatments to oncology patients; observing patients for side effects due to treatment; assisting Radiologists with Cesium-137 implants; performing central axis calculations; fabricating custom shields for treatments; maintaining records on patients treated; handling and storing Cesium-137 sources; ordering and maintaining supplies.Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Radiologist or administrative supervisor and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for compliance with prescribed standards and procedures; supervises and/or administers basic and complex radiation therapy treatments to patients as prescribed by a Radiologist; performs computerized treatment planning as directed by Medical Physicist; assists Radiologists with intracavitary implants using Cesium-137; performs central axis calculations; observes patients for side effects due to treatment; maintains records on patients treated and work performed; handles and stores Cesium-137 sources and monitors safety procedures in the department; orders and maintains supplies; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an approved Radiation Therapy Technologist training course, and two years of radiation therapy experience. Bachelors degree will substitute for two years of experience. Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as a Radiation Therapy Technologist required.
