Responsibilities
The Coordinator, Clinic Billing is responsible for the clerical support of the perioperative and clinical service department by reviewing surgical procedures, preparing patient charges and auditing records for accuracy; reviews and enters clinical charges for outpatient cliic service on a daily basis; generates reports utilizing the Electronic Medical Record; reviews reports generated by Cerner and corrects, edits and modifies charges as needed, assists providers with billing questions and provides feedback and education; works with reimbursement/billing personnel to identify missing charges; coordinates with vendors, service line coordinators and billing as needed to ensure charges are appropriate; acts as liason between third party billing services and the prodivers; promotes a positive work attitude and provide patient centered care; develops a sense of team, initiates and participates in team development; maintains professional growth and development through an ongoing process of formal and informal education; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirement; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required. Educates clinic staff and providers on ethical coding practices; scrubs weekly/monthly 3rd party billing repoarts for accuracy in captured charges and reviews with providers to insure maximum billing efforts. Liason for billing between USA Health and third party billing company to appropriately capture charges for procedure completed outside of the USA Health EMR system, scrub the charges and procedure/OP notes for accuracy and route them appropriately. Monthly reviews of charges captured from in-house pricedures and communicate missing and/or inaccurate data with third party billing services; ensures non-review generating claims through payor portals and scrub for cash equivalent for non-wRVU CPTs; ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as payer-specific guidelines; work closely with orthopedic providers, office staff, and insurance representatives to resolve billing issues and ensure accurate coding; monitor and follow up on unpaid and denied claims to ensure prompt resolution.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and one year of supervisory experience in a medical business office setting. Directly related experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Current certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). Certification as a Certified Othropaedic Surgery Coder (COSC) preferred.
