Job Description
The Head of Coaching (HOC), Beach National Teams (BNT) is a full-time position and reports directly to the Director, Beach National Teams. This position serves as a highly experienced and motivated individual responsible for the identification and development of coaches within our Beach National Team program. This pivotal role will be responsible for significantly improving the professional capabilities of our national team coaches, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the quality of training and performance of our athletes on the international stage. They will work closely with other USAV/USOPC Performance Team members toward this end. International and domestic Travel is required for this position. This position is currently located in Torrance, California.
Requirements
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:
Coach Development
- Design and implement a comprehensive coach development program for Beach National Team coaches.
- Create and facilitate regular coach development workshops and learning sessions.
- Develop a Coach Competency Framework specific to beach volleyball.
- Conduct individual and group video review sessions to enhance tactical understanding.
- Provide mentorship and support to 8 national team coaches (4 women's teams, 4 men's teams).
- Foster a learning-centric environment with a growth mindset among coaches.
Training and Performance Enhancement
- Lead periodic live coaching sessions with national team athletes to model best practices.
- Attend live training sessions to evaluate and provide feedback for team coaches.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve athletes' self-sufficiency in game reading, tactical adaptation, and application of skills.
- Collaborate with strength and conditioning, mental performance, and other support staff to ensure holistic athlete development.
Program Development
- Contribute expertise to beach athlete development programs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of coaching philosophies and methodologies across the beach volleyball pathway.
- Create resources and tools to support ongoing coach education and development.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Establish metrics for coach engagement and development.
- Track and report on key performance indicators such as workshop attendance, video review sessions conducted, and coach engagement in the Competency Framework.
- Provide regular updates on the progress of the coach development program.
International Representation
- Attend 3-4 major international tournaments per year to observe, support, and provide feedback to national team coaches and athletes.
- Attend 3-4 domestic tournaments annually to engage with the broader beach volleyball coaching community.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education, related degree, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of elite level experience in beach volleyball as a former professional player and/or coach AND/OR proven track record in coach education and development with experience as Coach Educator/Developer.
- Deep understanding of international beach volleyball, including technical skills, tactics, performance demands, and current trends.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to influence and develop high-performance coaches.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create and implement coach development programs.
- Proficiency in video analysis and performance feedback.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Must successfully pass a USAV background screen (prior to hire date).
- Must complete SafeSport training within two weeks of hire date and keep current as a condition of continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate Degree in Physical Education or related field.
- Ten (10) plus years of elite level experience as a coach in beach volleyball.
- Olympic experience as a coach or athlete.
- Demonstrated success as a beach coach at an international level.
- Experience with beach volleyball specific statistical analysis software.
- Experience with the IF/Confederation/USOC/NGB/USAV Regions is a plus.
Salary: $100,000 - $125,000
