What are the responsibilities and job description for the Claims Examiner- Professional Claims position at USLI?
As a Claims Examiner, you will be responsible for evaluating coverage, liability, and damages for each claim. Your work will involve collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to investigate, negotiate, and resolve claims efficiently.
Core Responsibilities
Coverage & Policy Review
- Analyze policy details and the first notice of loss to confirm coverage.
- Draft disclaimers and reservation of rights letters when necessary.
Claim Investigation & Liability Assessment
- Conduct in-depth investigations, including damage evaluations, witness interviews, and scene inspections.
- Gather and assess evidence to determine liability.
- Engage and oversee independent adjusters in the investigation process.
Claim Resolution & Litigation Management
- Apply statutory and case law to evaluate liability exposure.
- Ensure joint tortfeasors contribute their fair share to settlements.
- Maintain accurate claim reserves that reflect liability and damages.
- Proactively manage claim files, negotiate settlements, and oversee defense counsel.
Reporting & Cross-Team Collaboration
- Prepare reports, including reserve authority requests, reinsurance reports, and serious loss reports.
- Work with underwriting, compliance, and actuarial teams to align claim handling with company objectives.

Experience & Qualifications
Associate Claims Examiner: 2 years of relevant experience
Claims Examiner: 7 years of relevant experience
- Background in roles such as examiner, adjuster, paralegal, attorney, or a similar position
- Experience handling Directors & Officers, Errors & Omissions, Cyber Liability, or other professional claims involving claims-made policies is a plus
- Multi-jurisdictional claims knowledge, advanced degrees, or a JD is preferred
