What are the responsibilities and job description for the Claims Examiner-Professional position at USLI?
Key Responsibilities:
- Coverage Evaluation: Review the first notice of loss and policy details to confirm coverage; draft disclaimers and reservation of rights letters as needed.
- Comprehensive Claims Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations, including liability and damage assessments, witness interviews, scene inspections, and evidence collection.
- Independent Adjuster Oversight: Retain, direct, and manage independent adjusters throughout the investigation process.
- Liability Assessment: Apply statutory and case law to analyze liability exposure, ensuring joint tortfeasors contribute appropriately.
- Reserve Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date reserves reflecting evolving liability and damages.
- Claims Handling & Litigation Management: Oversee claim files, negotiate settlements directly with claimants or attorneys, manage defense counsel, and implement effective litigation strategies.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare reserve authority requests, reinsurance reports, serious loss reports, and coverage position letters.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with underwriting, compliance, and actuarial teams to support risk management and product integrity.

- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with insurance coverage principles, negligence law, and claim evaluation processes.
Qualifications:
- Experience Level:
- 2 years of relevant experience for Associate Claims Examiner
- 7 years of relevant experience for Claims Examiner
- Industry Background: Experience as an examiner, adjuster, paralegal, attorney, or in a related role.
- Specialized Expertise: Background in Directors & Officers (D&O), Errors & Omissions (E&O), Cyber Liability, or other professional claims involving claims-made policies is a plus.
- Additional Credentials: Multi-jurisdictional experience, advanced degrees, or a JD are preferred.
