Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty
position as Assistant Professor/Collection Management Librarian in University
Libraries to begin in the fall of 2022.

Job Summary
As a member of the Technical Services Department,
the Collection Management Librarian role is to acquire materials in all formats
and work collaboratively with librarians, faculty, and external vendors. The Collection
Management Librarian is responsible for the collection development of library
resources to meet user needs and university programs of study. This includes selection, deselection,
negotiating of licensing terms for subscription packages, collection analysis,
and general collection management.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Supervise and manage collection development activities and policies. Work collaboratively with personnel across University Libraries to develop policies and best practices; coordinate the liaison program; create announcements for the university community about new purchases, trials, and other news impacting library collections; work collaboratively (internally and externally) to develop collections that meet the vision and mission of the University’s colleges; assess collections for areas of strength and weakness and develop plans to remediate collection gaps; coordinate the libraries deaccessioning program, including the updating of procedures and adhering to a periodic schedule for deaccessioning; coordinate gift materials acquisition; coordinate training and educational opportunities for librarians on departmental processes and subscribed databases; coordinate and implement database trials for the University community that include the opportunity for qualitative and quantitative feedback from test groups; coordinate collection management projects.
2. Develop effective relationships with vendors to promote positive negotiations for library purchases (print and electronic). Serve as the libraries contact with vendors and work with library administration in library purchasing negotiations.
3. Manage the functions of acquisitions. Work collaboratively with library administration and the Head of Technical Services to determine budgeting and allocations for material selection. Investigate, evaluate, and implement acquisitions models (including consortia purchasing) that provide a positive impact to collection budgets and provide gained access to library materials. Provide monthly budgeting updates to library administration and the Head of Technical Services.
4. Work collaboratively with the
Electronic Resources Librarian to gather statistical analysis of databases
and collections for the determination of material usage, purchasing, and academic
accreditations.
5. Stay current with issues, trends and best practices related to job duties by attending appropriate conferences, workshops, etc. and regularly consulting appropriate literature, listservs, and other resources. Integrate new technologies, processes, and programs to improve efficiency and service.
6. Serve on Libraries committees and task forces related to the position’s primary job duties. Work collaboratively with other Technical Services and Libraries faculty and staff to achieve Libraries and University goals.
7. Engage in research and scholarly activity to
fulfill the expectations for tenure and promotion; provide service to the
Libraries, the university, and the profession, to fulfill the expectations for
promotion and tenure. Perform other duties as requested.
