Job Summary
The Assistant Teacher assists in the planning and implementation of a developmentally
appropriate curriculum in an early childhood classroom that models best practices for University laboratory students completing degrees in Child and Family Studies and other related fields. The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in the overall functioning and quality of their assigned classroom. This includes the responsibility of mentoring and guiding individuals who are in their room, ensuring that they are following best practices and the NAEYC code of ethics. The Assistant Teacher must utilize effective forms of communication and guidance with all individuals present in the room to ensure they are aware of and upholding their duties and expectations while at the CCD.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in providing a model early childhood classroom.
- Assists in the planning and documentation of program curricula and utilizes the classroom environment to model evidence-based early childhood practices.
- Guides, directs, and supervises children in developmentally appropriate activities and personal care routines throughout the day.
- Actively participates in professional development activities such as workshops, conferences, in-service training, and parent meetings.
- Completes all required written reports in a timely manner.
- Assists in the effective communication between families, program staff, University laboratory students, University faculty, community resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
