USRowing’s mission is to steward, strengthen, and grow American rowing by championing performance and igniting new passion for the sport. We do that by broadening access to the sport for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities; supporting a strong national team; prioritizing the wellbeing and success of our athletes; being accountable and transparent; and insisting on financial and operational excellence in everything we do.
We are a nonprofit membership organization recognized by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States. USRowing selects, trains, and manages the team that represent the U.S. in international competition.

What We Offer
Are you passionate about building inclusive communities and fostering accessibility in sports? USRowing is looking for an enthusiastic and driven Community Engagement Intern to join our Community Team for the summer. This team is at the heart of USRowing’s mission to create a more welcoming and diverse rowing community, and you’ll play a vital role in helping execute our strategic vision.
As a key member of the Community Engagement team, you will have the opportunity to work across multiple areas of the organization, including program development, communications, membership engagement, and event planning. From supporting our signature United We Row initiatives—such as grants to membership organizations and scholarships for athletes and coaches—to helping cultivate an inclusive and accessible environment at regattas and national events, your work will directly contribute to breaking down barriers in the sport of rowing.
Responsibilities:

Assist in the execution and evaluation of United We Row programs that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the rowing community.

Support the development of communications and storytelling initiatives that amplify the voices of underrepresented athletes, coaches, and organizations.

Collaborate with internal teams to implement key initiatives that support inclusive events, enhance member engagement, and drive awareness.

Contribute to the development and review of policies that promote safeguarding and ensure the well-being of participants at all levels.

Participate in the coordination and execution of national championships, gaining hands-on experience in event management and engagement strategies.
Qualifications:

Excellent Communication Skills: Both written and verbal, with the ability to create compelling narratives that inspire and engage diverse audiences.

Eagerness to Learn: Enthusiasm for gaining hands-on experience across various aspects of non-profit operations, from program development and fundraising to marketing and communications.

Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders and adapting to new challenges.

Organized and Detail-Oriented: Strong time-management skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.

Event Availability: Willingness to attend and participate in major in-person events, including national championships and other key community engagement activities.
