Title: Chief Lending Officer
SUMMARY:
Accountable for the credit union's entire consumer, real estate, and business loan portfolio and for the profitability and compliance of the credit union's lending activities, in addition to loss prevention control through appropriate loss mitigation and write-off strategy. Manages the loan portfolio and develops, applies, and reviews the credit union's underwriting criteria. Develops strategic growth and financial profitability plans involving all lending products. Aids the President/CEO in formulating and administering organizational policies; analyzes and proposes new product offerings. Provides prompt, professional, and courteous support and assistance to internal departments, retail branches and members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plan and develop all loan department policies and goals to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations; implements goals through subordinate staff.
- Responsible for directing all efforts of business lending activity. Recommend/revise business lending policies and implement procedures and controls. Monitor business lending trends and market conditions, oversee management of the existing business loan portfolio, maintain the ongoing client relationships and evaluate new business lending opportunities.
- Confer with the credit union's management team to plan department objectives, develop contemporary lending policies and coordinate the ancillary functions and operational connectors between departments. Establish and assign responsibilities and processes for attaining these objectives, including authority and lending limits determined for each product and each lending officer.
- Manage overall lending and collection activity, loan officer and delinquency reports, and the impact on financial statements to determine results. Compare activity with predetermined objectives and initiate the revised processes required to continuously improve lending productivity and profitability.
- Establish the lending procedures and designs lending processes that result in departmental productivity, exceptional service delivery to borrowers, and cost-effective underwriting.
- Stay abreast of the general economic conditions, laws, and regulations that may affect the credit union's lending and collection functions, including bankruptcy legislation.
- Plan, direct, and control all activities in the loan service support and asset recovery departments; oversee daily operation to assess continued effectiveness. Make recommendations as needed to improve or facilitate operational procedures.
- Work in conjunction with EVP/COO to ensure peak lending performance for branch and FC lending personnel by providing consistent training for all locations.
- Cultivate and maintain appropriate relationships with members and co-workers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages subordinate managers/supervisors who manage/supervise employees in the consumer lending, business lending, mortgage, and loss mitigation functions. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated strength in credit analysis, financial analysis, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of the organization.
- Must possess the ability to work independently, be detail oriented and possess excellent organization skills.
- Ability to network with business contacts and successfully convert them to lending leads.
- Technological skills and knowledge, experience with financial spreadsheets, and proficiency in various technology software packages.
- Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with established dress code policy.
- Maintains a positive attitude with employees and members, and remains flexible while focused on accepted practices, policy, productivity and effectiveness.
- Promotes awareness of the credit union mission and brand statement to the credit union membership.
- Abides by the Service Standards established by the credit union.
- Strong knowledge of financial products and services.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university; and five or more years related experience in a high-level lending position with leadership responsibilities. An equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience may be considered.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
A Notary Public certificate is desired but not required.
