What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Area Specialist-Associate position at UT Health Science Center at San Antonio?
In this role, the Research Area Specialist-Associate will primarily provide administrative support in arranging tissue (brain) donations for the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Disease (Biggs Institute) Brain Bank. Under general supervision and through hands-on training, research area specialist will work with potential donors and their families to answer questions related to the donation process and register participants. Following the donor’s death, coordinator will work with pathologist assistants, dieners and the brain bank team to ensure body transportation, facility accessibility and brain autopsy (specialist does not participate in procedure) are performed in a timely manner. Subsequently, specialist will serve as a liaison to the family, including facilitating family interviews. This position is an integral and vital role in the Biggs Institute Brain Bank’s mission to provide answers and clarity, through neuropathological assessment, to families affected by devastating neurodegenerative disorders. Additional responsibilities include accessing electronic health record systems, performing data collection/entry, organizing records and documentation, managing a research database, assisting in scheduling, and ordering items for the laboratory.
