What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maternal Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner position at UT Medical Center?
This position will be both in and outpatient, serving our population of maternal patients with substance use disorders. Experience preferred with maternal mental health, as well as substance use disorder, all through a trauma-informed care lens.
Develops clear, concise educational content for staff, patients, families, and students using adult learning principles.
Assists with staff development to encourage assumption of expanded roles such as unit educator, grand rounds, researcher, and presenter.
Develops and coordinates quality continuing education or specialized programs for staff and community.
Demonstrates expertise in the development of plans of care for identified patients in collaboration with interdisciplinary team.
Identifies and recommends clinical standards of practice for the appropriate patient population, assist with unit level quality improvement activities, monitors compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory guidelines and collaborates with other health professionals to develop and evaluate programs and services.
Assists the management team in the routine monitoring of practice/documentation and provides feedback to staff as well as recommendation for improvement.
Partners with management team to ensure that nursing policies and procedures are current, valid, and appropriate for all patient population.
Offers innovative strategies for quality improvement at unit/division, and department level.
Uses data and research to assist staff in developing PI projects.
Serves as liaison to facilitate quality patient care.
Effectively collaborates with division management in development and attainment of desired goals for designated areas, division and institution.
Serves as role model in all aspects of performance and behavior as a professional practitioner.
Provides or assists staff in providing thorough patient/family .
Assesses the educational needs of the staff at least annually.
Maintains current unit specific competency based orientation program in conjunction with staff nurse coaches.
Assists Nurse Managers in assuring compliance with JCAHO standards.
Maintains current knowledge of JCAHO standards as they apply to nursing unit.
Assists Nurse Managers in developing and implementing efficient systems and processes to comply with standards.
Assists Nurse Managers with the implementation and evaluation of system/process changes.
Fosters the development of theory and evidence-based research in nursing practice.
Develops and implements nursing research studies to assess the efficacy of patient care practices.
Provides opportunities to involve nursing staff members in the research process.
Serves as a resource person for research issues.
Disseminates recent research findings to staff and implement appropriate clinical practice changes.
Facilitates the development of protocol and pathways.
Promotes excellence in nursing care delivery.
Serves as a role model and consultant for staff nurses and managers.
Maintains knowledge of current nursing theories and trends in professional nursing care.
Serves as an educator to staff, patients, peers, and students. Assists in coordination, implementation and evaluation of staff orientation.
Performs annual educational needs assessment.
Develops, coordinates, and/or provides in-services and CEU offerings regularly.
Coordinates content appropriate for orientation of new staff.
Provides or assists staff in providing thorough patient/family education.
Assists in remediation of staff in collaboration with management team.
Previous experience as a Maternal Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or experience with Substance Abuse disorder strongly preferred.
