What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infectious Diseases Physician Scientist position at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases & Geographic Medicine, is seeking applicants for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level and above. Applicants must have an M.D. degree, or equivalent, from an approve LCME medical school, and have satisfactorily completed an Internal Medicine residency program, and an Infectious Diseases fellowship program, from an ACGME accredited program. Candidates must be eligible for Texas medical licensure and be board-certified in Internal Medicine and board-certified/eligible in Infectious Diseases. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule.
The primary roles and responsibilities will be to develop an independently funded basic science or translational science laboratory in the field of infectious disease research. The laboratory is expected to produce peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and is expected to obtain extramural funding support for research, attend and present at national and international scientific conference, and develop an international scientific reputation in the field of infectious diseases research. The applicant is expected to apply for a DOCS award. Other duties include to provide patient care on the Infectious Diseases Inpatient Consult Services at Clements University Hospital and Parkland Hospital. Participation in the teaching and training of medical and physician assistant students, residents, and ID fellows is also expected
