Summer STEM Technology Integrationist/Teacher Assistant (AmeriCorps Position) – Utah Tech PREP

BACKGROUND:

Utah Tech PREP is an academically intense, mathematics-based, summer enrichment program, designed to develop critical thinking skills and prepare students for a successful college experience. Utah Tech PREP identifies high-achieving middle school students with an interest in math and science and challenges them to grow in new ways. Students attend the program over the course of three summers and complete coursework, team projects, class presentations, field trips, special events, and examinations. AmeriCorps Service

The individual selected for this position will serve as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job. This is a wonderful opportunity to add service and hands-on teaching experience to your resume! This is an especially terrific opportunity for someone who is pursuing a career in education or STEM. AmeriCorps members sign an agreement to complete a term of service. You will be expected to complete a minimum of 300 service hours throughout your term.

This position will provide a living allowance of $4,200 paid over the term of service. The $4,200 stipend will be split up and paid on a bi-weekly basis (every other week) during your term of service. In addition, an Education Award* of $1,565.08 will be awarded upon successful completion of hours.

*The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post-service benefit received by individuals who complete terms of national service in approved AmeriCorps programs. This award (similar to a Pell Grant) can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions.

The education award is valid for 7 years following the end of an individual’s AmeriCorps term.

**NOTE: You will not be paid hourly.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATIONIST/TEACHER ASSISTANT

Technology Integrationist:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot all technological equipment, including 3-D printers, Sphero robots, Chromebooks, and iPads.
  • Develop and provide trainings and technical support to students and staff, including logging into computers and using the equipment properly.
  • Manage the inventory for all technology items.
  • Manage a check-out list and technology calendar of when equipment will be used and where.
  • Assist the Site Coordinator in managing the Canvas grading system.

Teacher Assistant

  • Assist teachers in the classroom with projects, activities, and technology (as needed).
  • Substitute when a teacher or program assistant is gone.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by Director and Site Coordinator.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Make it a point to get to know and engage with the student body.
  • Be a positive role model and representative of Utah Tech PREP and Utah Tech University.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN PROGRAM ASSISTANT:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have completed at least one year of college.
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be a current student at Utah Tech University.
  • Commitment and interest in assisting middle and high school students in their academic and personal growth.
  • Experience using and maintaining technological equipment, including 3-D printers and Chromebooks.
  • Experience with educational robotics kits. If no experience, must have a strong desire and ability to learn.
  • Strong communication skills for effectively guiding staff and engaging with students.
  • Ability to take initiative, demonstrate dependability, and employ strong time management.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail, maturity, professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and a positive sense of humor.
  • Prior experience working with adolescents (preferred).
  • nterest in educational technology (preferred).

DATES: May 12 – July 31, 2025 (10-15 hours per week for a minimum of 100 total hours)

Must be available to work in-person on the following dates:

  • May 12, 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., AmeriCorps Training
  • May 14, 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., PREP Student/Parent Orientation
  • May 27 – June 6, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Staff Training
  • June 9 – July 15, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., PREP Program
  • Holidays: June 17, July 4, and half-day on July 3
  • July 16, 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., PREP Program and closing party
  • July 17, 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., PREP Program, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Closing Celebration
  • July 21 – July 25, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Clean-up
  • Holiday: July 24

RATE OF PAY: $4,200 stipend $1,565.08 education award = $5,765.08 total compensation

  • The living stipend is paid bi-weekly. The education award will be paid upon completion of the 300-hour term.
  • The education award is sent to your school of choice and can then be used to pay for education expenses (student loans, tuition, or other education-related expenses). Many schools will allow you to withdraw the funds as needed (similar to scholarship or other granted funds). You can apply for the education award immediately or wait for up to seven years following your term of completion. While serving as an AmeriCorps member, you are also eligible to have your student loans deferred (by request).
