Job Description
The controls software designer is a specialized role focused on all aspects of controls software design, including PLC, HMI, Servo, VFD and commissioning. The position requires a disciplined approach to execute design tasks efficiently and completely.
The company has a well-defined design process with phase gates and checklists that must be followed without exception. The controls software designer must consider the impact of their work on other disciplines in the engineering and build of the systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design electrical & pneumatic systems using AutoCAD or equivalent
- Construct system Bill of Materials
- Develop software applications for PLC Systems, HMI Systems, Servo & CNC programs, and Fieldbus Commissioning
- Commission / debug automation systems
- Interface with mechanical Design, shop trades and customers
- Communicate professionally
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years working controls experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficiency with ControLogix and FactoryTalk software
- Experience in body shop applications and technology
Skills:
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD annotations and tolerances
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Local travel to UTEC facilities and customer/supplier sites for meetings or support is rarely required.
