Description of Services Provided by UMS

UMS provides utility rate consulting and bill auditing services. This involves helping organizations reduce their electric, natural gas, and water utility costs by finding errors and overcharges in their bills and by finding lower available rate tariffs. This service is typically on a contingency basis, whereby we invoice the customer for 50% of the savings received for the first four years. After that, all savings go to the customer. 


Where applicable, UMS also offers other consulting and ancillary services, such as intervening in rate cases on behalf of customers, supporting customer participation in Demand Response programs, supporting customers in securing retail energy contracts in deregulated markets, and addressing other customer needs, such as bill management and audits of other types of vendor services, through partner organizations.


Description of Work

UMS has a team of Analysts responsible for the analysis and consulting services we provide to our customers. This primarily entails developing utility rate models, analyzing our clients’ energy and water usage to calculate their costs under all available rate tariffs, and identifying savings opportunities. Specifically, as a member of the Analyst Team, the Associate Analyst will:

  • Develop and maintain an understanding of utility rates
  • Follow up with customers and their utilities to obtain documents and data as needed
  • Enter customer data into our systems
  • Calculate and analyze customer costs under various tariffs, using UMS’s proprietary models
  • Develop invoices summarizing analysis results and savings opportunities
  • Collaborate with the sales team to deliver invoices to customers and respond to customer questions
Invoicing

Employee’s primary responsibility will be to work with other Analysts to manage the overall invoicing process.  Steps in this process include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Requesting historical billing and usage data from customers and power company personnel.
  • Developing in-house capability to collect data from power company web sites.
  • Managing and monitoring the Master Invoicing List (also known as the Master Spreadsheet) to ensure that all necessary data is in place to bill customers correctly.
  • Creating and verifying savings spreadsheets for each power provider based on the rates in place each month to track actual savings realized for all accounts under contract with UMS.
  • Creating regular customer invoices including individual savings spreadsheets and QuickBooks invoices with assistance from other Analysts.
  • Assisting with production of monthly Customer Statements.
  • Distributing invoices and statements with the support of the Administrative Assistant.
  • Tracking performance metrics related to invoicing, such as Schedule 10 account savings, savings per quarter, etc.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements in our invoicing processes and procedures to ensure that invoices are going out in accordance with the established schedules and to ensure that the invoices are accurate and error free. 

 

 

 

Furthermore, when eligible, Employee will become a certified Business Energy Professional and will have the opportunity to obtain other energy and related certifications and job-related trainings.
