POSITION SUMMARY:
UTI is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Environmental Scientist I. The position will support project / program teams by performing and gaining experience in a variety of technical aspects of environmental projects related to the pipeline and energy industry. This could include assisting with site‐specific data gathering, desktop reviews, environmental field work, environmental sampling, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, cultural resource assessments, and providing technical expertise to project managers and clients. The Environmental Scientist I will be expected to develop and demonstrate proficiency related to the essential functions and responsibilities of the job specified below.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide regulatory and permitting support for the planning, development, production, construction, and completion of proposed pipeline projects throughout the Midwest (i.e. Ohio and surrounding states)
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop and integrate environmental and regulatory permitting and planning
- Responsible for working with Company engineers, surveyors, inspectors, right-of-way personnel, and management
- Conduct preliminary site assessments to identify environmentally sensitive areas
- Provide field inspection in environmentally sensitive areas, as required for various projects
- Provide reviews and recommendations to projects at new and existing facilities, including assessments of regulatory applicability, compliance, and planning
- Conduct environmental construction inspections
- Ensures that all environmental compliance issues are effectively communicated to the appropriate parties
- Represent company/client during agency inspections
- Presents findings from studies and assessments in reports, letters, and mapping in a clear and concise manner
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, preferably in the field of physical sciences, natural sciences or engineering
- 1-3 years’ experience required
- Knowledge of environmental laws, including but not limited to Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Threatened and Endangered Species Act, Section 106, and various state environmental laws, including the Ohio Power Siting Board rules
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English language)
- Excellent organizational skills
- Discretion when dealing with confidential information
- Ability to handle multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines
- Ability to prepare reports, keep records, analyze and summarize raw data, in order to fill out and submit summary and regulatory reports
- Ability to work well and communicate with project managers, project engineers, and contractors
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules and focus attention on details
- Ability to complete field and office work assignments with minimal supervision in an acceptable time frame
- Valid driver’s license and driving record satisfactory to UTI’s insurance provider
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Good working knowledge of ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office
- Licenses/Certifications: Additional environmental certifications are preferred
- Oil & gas industry experience a plus
