Job Summary
As the Associate Director, you will lead dynamic student programs, oversee student organization development, leadership, assessment, conduct, scholarship and endowment management, trainings, and risk education in the Student Involvement Center. Your efforts will foster community, collaboration with campus partners, and enrich student life at the University of Texas at San Antonio. This role directly supervises two full-time staff members and indirectly supervises a team of graduate assistants, as well as dozens of student employees. Reporting to the Director of the Student Involvement Center, the Associate Director provides comprehensive internal department management.
Core Responsibilities
Supervises two Senior Programs Manager positions and up to two graduate assistants and the involvement specialist student staff.
Lead and assist in the coordination of all aspects of leadership development, student organization management and development including Fraternity and Sorority life chapters.
Plan, implement, and evaluate student involvement, leadership, and student organization resources to ensure continuous program improvement for the benefit of all students and student organizations in alignment with the division’s strategic plan.
Oversee the execution and strategic direction of risk management and safety programming for all student organizations, including but not limited to the Student Organization Tailgating, State Mandated Risk Management Education, and hazing prevention efforts for the institution.
Consult widely with university stakeholders regarding matters that relate to student organizations to develop strategy, protocols, policy recommendations and resources to address needs.
Maintain contact with student organizations and their advisors to serve as a resource and to monitor compliance with university policies and procedures.
Assist with the investigation and adjudication of violations of the student code of conduct by student organizations. Specifically, hears and decides on appeals of student organizations.
Interpret institutional and system policies to students with regard to student organizations. Evaluate and create policies and procedures and make recommendations to the Director of the Student Involvement Center and the Associate Dean of Students for Involvement.
Develops and evaluates fraternities and sororities using the minimum expectations and Fraternity and Sorority Life Programs. Maintains Fraternity and Sorority Life Organizations membership rosters and scholarship records.
Coordinate department assessment and strategic planning efforts in conjunction with division wide assessment.
Provide oversight to the Get Involved Living Learning Community with Housing and Residence Life
Oversee the departments scholarships and endowment records and dissemination.
Assist and support department and university-wide programs including, but not limited to, Downtown programs, Roadrunner Days, Homecoming and Commencement.
Collaborate closely with the other units in the Division of Student Affairs and campus partners, particularly, Student Conduct, and Student Success center across campus.
Serve as a member of the Expressive Activity Response, including oversight of the campus expressive activity policies, response scheduling in regards to student organizations. Support, respond, and enforce free speech, expressive activity, and assembly related to Texas Senate Bill 18 and federal law.
Serve as the liaison to other university administrative offices and areas of the university that provide essential facilities and services for programming and student involvement.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree.
Five years professional experience working in Student Affairs or other student success functional area.
Three years of direct experience working with college students.
Three years of supervision experience.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, or a related field.
Experience working in a metropolitan university.
Knowledge Skills, and Abilities
Student-centered approach to programming and service.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Anthology Engaged and Adobe Photoshop.
Proficiency with clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.
Demonstrated independent decision-making and problem-solving ability.
