Clinical Informatics Nurse (RN) (Full-Time)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Informatics Nurse (RN) serves as a bridge between clinical care and technology, leveraging their nursing expertise to optimize the use of Meditech Expanse and other healthcare information systems. The role focuses on improving workflows, enhancing patient outcomes, and ensuring system usability while providing support and training to clinical staff. Reports to Information Systems Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical System Management:

• Act as a subject matter expert for Meditech Expanse, providing expertise in system functionalities and clinical workflow integration.
• Collaborate with IT and clinical staff to ensure proper configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting of the EHR.
• Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of new system features and upgrades within Meditech Expanse.
• Analyze clinical workflows to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend system modifications to enhance efficiency and safety.

Training and Support:

• Develop and deliver training materials and sessions for clinical staff on Meditech Expanse and other informatics tools.
• Serve as a resource for end-users to resolve issues and provide ongoing support, ensuring effective adoption and utilization.
• Offer go-live and post-go-live support during EHR implementations or updates.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

• Extract, analyze, and interpret clinical data from Meditech Expanse to support quality improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with clinical leadership to develop dashboards, performance metrics, and reporting tools that align with organizational goals.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including IT, nursing, physicians, and administration, to align clinical systems with organizational priorities.
• Lead or participate in committees and workgroups focused on clinical informatics and EHR optimization.
• Communicate system updates, enhancements, and best practices to stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

• Active Texas RN license
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing or related field (healthcare administration) preferred;
• Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical nursing experience.
• At least 1-2 years of experience in clinical informatics or EHR system management, with specific experience in Meditech Expanse preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge of Meditech Expanse modules, including documentation, CPOE, and reporting tools.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate clinical workflows and system effectiveness.
• Proficiency in training and mentoring clinical staff.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and healthcare quality standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in Meditech Expanse; experience with related healthcare technologies is a plus.
• Knowledge of database querying, reporting tools, and clinical data analytics.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in Nursing Informatics (e.g., ANCC Informatics Nursing Certification).
• Experience in system implementation or optimization projects.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed in a hospital environment with exposure to clinical settings.
• May require on-call availability for urgent system issues or updates.
