JOB TITLE:
A/V Archives Scan Technician
JOB PURPOSE:
This is a part-time temporary position to assist with digitizing the AHC's A/V collection material to provide content for access for the AHC’s online digital platform Luna.
The A/V scan technician will primarily digitize analog a/v archival collection materials of different formats including audio cassette tapes, reel-to-reel tape, 16mm and 8mm film. The position may also be asked to digitize paper and photographs from A/V collections to precise standards for preservation and access to the AHC’s online digital collections.
The starting rate of pay is $10.50 per hour, but may be adjusted based on experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This Audio-Visual Archives Scan Technician will have a primary role of digitizing audio and video recordings, most of which are on older formats, including audio cassette tapes, reel-to-reel tape, and 16mm and 8mm film. Primary duties are digital scanning of analog archival materials according to archival imaging standards, the transport and handling of that material according to archival best practices, and the creation of descriptive metadata and supporting documentary records. Other miscellaneous and related duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Digitization Lab Supervisor or the Collections Manager. This position reports directly to the Digitization Lab Supervisor.
REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED
Other requirements:
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, performing them in a relatively short period of time.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written format.
- Computer, software, and writing skills commensurate with the creation of college level class assignments.
- Physically capable of moving and lifting up to 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for historical audio and video recordings and have some background in working with audio and/or video material and digitization software.
- Advanced computer skills relating to digital scanning hardware and software.
- Familiarity with metadata standards, particularly Dublin Core.
- Knowledge of archives theory and practice.
- Familiarity with Excel.
