POSITION SUMMARY
The Ambulatory Infusion Suite (AIS) Patient Technician (APT) is responsible for clinical patient assistance during infusion therapy in the AIS under the direction of registered nurse (RN) staff or the Infusion Nurse Manager. In addition, this position is responsible for assisting with operational duties for the AIS which includes but is not limited to intake, inventory, rooming patients and general administrative tasks. This will require extensive, ongoing interaction with patients, staff, providers, referral sources, and community agencies, as applicable.
ESSENTIAL JOB KNOWLEDGE
- Performs all clinical care under the supervision of a registered nurse and within the scope of licensure, as applicable.
- Provides direct patient care, including, but not limited to, obtaining vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, pulse oximetry), patient and/or caregiver infusion therapy education.
- Recognizes and reports to RN staff signs and symptoms which indicate changes in the physical and psychosocial condition of the patient.
- Initiates emergency response procedures and performs effectively in clinical emergency situations.
- Performs patient intake and scheduling duties.
- Collaborates effectively with all Infusion disciplines as appropriate.
- Manages supply and equipment inventory and reordering, as well as the review of expiration dates.
- Prepares and maintains patient educational materials, folders, etc.
- Successfully completes initial and ongoing organizational and department education, training, and competency requirements.
- Infection Control: Understands, demonstrates, and follows organizational infection control guidelines (CDIC).
- Quality: Focuses on improving processes and champions efficiency in daily work activities.
- Safety: Promotes a culture of safety by taking accountability for individual actions, including but not limited to, promptly reporting errors or near misses via the organization’s occurrence reporting system and participating in developing improved safety processes, as appropriate. (ADM015, ADM016, OPS044, Mission Statement).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Licenses:
- State of Wisconsin Professional licensure for certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, or EMT/paramedic preferred.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Diploma/certificate from a Nursing Assistant Program, Medical Assistant Program, or Paramedic/EMT preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of one year of recent experience in a health care setting required.
Miscellaneous:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required or completed within 6 months of hire.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills required.
