The Department has an exceptional scientific environment including national centers in cryo-ET and NMR, and facilities and expertise in cryo-EM, crystallography, biophysical instrumentation, imaging, and animal care. These departmental strengths are complemented by a UW-Madison ecosystem that boasts remarkable breadth in biological, chemical, medical, and engineering sciences as well as numerous excellent facilities for research including those specializing in mass spectrometry, high-throughput sequencing, and computation.
In addition to establishing a creative, independent, and extramurally funded research program, faculty are expected provide a strong training environment for pre- and post-doctoral trainees, participate in our undergraduate biochemistry teaching program, and contribute to service in the Department, College, University, and beyond.

Research in this area could include exploration of the molecular foundations of metabolism, systems-level modeling or engineering of life processes, understanding metabolic- or health-related changes in the genome or gene expression, or development of new technologies for monitoring or improving healthspan in cells and whole organisms. This faculty position is a tenure-track (junior) or tenured (mid-career or senior) position.
