Job Summary:
This position provides administrative support to two research programs within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Both programs, the Wisconsin Highway Research Program (WHRP) and the Mid-America Freight Coalition (MAFC) facilitate the identification, execution, and implementation of applied research to address the current and future needs of Wisconsin's transportation system and the country's freight needs. This position will assist Professors Dante Fratta (WHRP) and Sue Ahn (MAFC) to advance both programs' research and education goals. This is a multi-faceted position with a high level of independence and professionalism expected of the successful candidate.
The incumbent will coordinate a wide range of daily activities for the programs, both program-related and administrative-related. Specifically, the position will require establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups at all levels of the organization to advance the mission of both programs. The incumbent will coordinate the development and submission of grant-related reports, maintain a database of program activities and milestones, plan and coordinate programs and events, and provide general administrative support for the operations of the programs as needed.
Responsibilities: Plans, analyzes, manages, coordinates, and tracks projects and quality improvement efforts for processes, procedures, and systems. Provides management consulting to improve organizational results.

- 20% Establishes, monitors, coordinates, and controls project budgets versus actual expenditures and budget reporting
- 20% Serves as the initial point of contact for the project(s), serves on committees, and attends meetings representing the interests of the project(s)

Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of experience in administration or project coordination, preferably in an academic or research setting.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite and/or Google Suite applications.
- Ability to research and synthesize information in both written and oral form.
- A strong customer service orientation and demonstrated success in building professional relationships and working effectively with multiple constituents (such as faculty, staff, students, and state agencies).
- Comfortable presenting in front of a group.
- Excellent time management and attention to detail.
- Initiative, creativity on the job, and problem solving abilities.
- Experience planning, coordinating and facilitating meetings.
- Strong writing and oral communications skills and excellent task management skills are essential.
- Demonstrated leadership, self-confidence, creativity, initiative, attention to detail and the ability to work independently to manage and coordinate projects within a team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with engineering and/or the Department of Transportation is a plus.
