Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Center for Healthy Minds (CHM) is a leader in conducting science - in and out of the lab - on how to nurture emotional well-being in daily life, considering the complexity of our human experience.

We are looking for a research specialist to help run a large, national mobile mental health study. The ADAPT study aims to explore how to tailor support and well-being practices delivered through a meditation-based smartphone in a data-driven and timely manner, optimizing long-term well-being.

In this role, you will coordinate the daily activities of conducting the research study, including participant recruitment and enrollment as well as ongoing data collection and quality assurance. A significant portion of your time will be spent interacting with participants over the phone and email. For instance, you may be asked to help someone figure out how to download an app on their phone or discuss instructions for collection of various types of data. In all cases, we want someone who is flexible, compassionate, enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds, and can think on their feet.

This role will primarily work on the ADAPT study, and there may be future opportunities to work on other studies across the Center (some examples can be found at centerhealthyminds.org/science/research). Responsibilities: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.

  • 50% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 5% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 15% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 20% Participates in participant recruitment as well as community-based engagement and outreach

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated commitment to contributing to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with minoritized populations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data management
  • Experience and/or interest in researching human well-being
  • Experience with community engagement, outreach, and/or recruitment
  • Experience coordinating day-to-day logistics of projects (for example, academic research projects and/or projects in industry/commercial spaces)
  • Experience with and/or interest in learning implementation of quality assurance protocols for various types of data collected via mobile phones, including from questionnaires and/or in-the-moment surveys
  • Experience with and/or interest in learning to work with research data, including: databases, data management, and remote survey administration tools (REDCap, Qualtrics, and/or Gorilla)

This position will require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. This position may require occasional evening and weekend work.

Minimum starting salary is $44,543 but actual pay will depend on skills and qualifications.
