BARISTA LEAD - ETC MARKETS

POSITION PURPOSE
Prepare and serve beverages and grab and go items in a café or espresso bar and assign, instruct and check the work of Food Service Workers 1 and students. This position may work in a service area that is separated from a central dining area; however, they have access to their supervisor for any questions or issues that are outside the scope of this position description.
Description Of Duties
Though hired into a specific working title or location, all employees of Housing and Food Services are expected to support overall operational and customer service needs by: participating in cross-training, providing coverage during staff absences or high business volume, participating in production and/or service of special events, and being willing and able to perform additional, related duties and/or be reassigned to another work unit (as appropriate, within specific job classification).
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment AND one year of experience preparing and serving food and beverage or equivalent education/experience.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute for required qualifications.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Schedules may be changed with two weeks' notice. These positions are nine-month cyclic positions that will work full-time, mid-September to mid-June. Additional work may be available in the summer based on business needs and seniority.

Description Of Duties
- Oversee the opening and/or closing service functions for a café.
- Prepare and serve beverages and grab and go items.
- Assign student, hourly or classified staff making espresso beverages, stocking shelves, serving hot and cold prepared items and operating the point of sale.
- Ensure adequate supply of non-food and food supplies necessary for operation.
- Ensure that all food items are attractively displayed, meet all Quality Assurance Standards, and are properly identified and priced. Keep display cases full throughout the day.
- Operate point of sale systems, keying in sales, taking payments and making change; account for receipts at the end of the work shift.
- Ensure that security and cash handling requirements are met each day; follow up with staff and supervisor on discrepancies.
- Refrigerate perishable foods and maintain proper storage of other foods and supplies; ensure that area is fully stocked.
- Participate and instruct staff in storing and rotating merchandise/stock in refrigerators, freezers or storage rooms according to food handling guidelines and department procedures.
- Ensure all visible surfaces are clean and orderly; keep all areas of the operation clear of all litter and debris.
- Ensure that food service equipment and work areas, including stockroom areas; comply with sanitation and safety regulations.
- Inspect food service equipment to determine proper care, use and operation; report malfunctions.
- Before completion of shift, complete inventory product sheets for the next day's operation.
- May prepare reports as necessary.
- May substitute for staff and provide support across all café locations in situations such as absences or high business volume.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
