This position covers the Conway region of NH.
Basic Function
To help people with barriers to employment to become and remain employed by performing a variety of liaison functions with employers.
Duties & Responsibilities
Direct assistance to job seekers:
· Interview and evaluate individuals to assess vocational skill and eligibility for job openings.
· Explore career paths and training opportunities
· Assist in development of resumes, job seeking and interviewing skills.
· Arrange assessment and networking interviews with employers.
· Arrange for interviews or furnish with job leads.
· Serve as liaison with other staff involved in direct assistance to people with barriers to employment.
· Provide information on employers’ hiring criteria and job demands.
· Coordinate job referrals, placement and follow up.
· Document job seeker activities and employer contacts.
· May participate in a variety of VABIR and inter-agency staff and committee meetings to plan, evaluate and coordinate programs, services, and activities.
Employer Outreach:
· Develop and maintain contacts with community businesses.
· Learn employer hiring practices, job requirements, local business trends.
· Communicate employer information back to job seekers and other staff.
· Identify and assist in developing job opportunities for job seekers.
· Refer job seekers to employers for work experiences, on the job training and job openings.
· Follow-up job placements to assist employers in resolving problems they may encounter with VABIR referrals.
· Assist employers to retain employees.
· Coordinate with community resources as appropriate.
Requirements, Knowledge/Skills:
Experience in a relevant field, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
· Ability to network with a wide variety of people
· Good writing, speaking, administrative and organizational skills
· Ability to deal effectively with the business community, people with work barriers, and social service agency personnel in carrying out job functions
· Requires high levels of initiative, diplomacy, and sensitivity.
· Public speaking skills desirable.
· Ideal candidate will have knowledge of the business community and be able to maintain positive rapport with job seekers, community agencies and employers.
Requires a self-starter with attention to detail, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to market to employers. Good interpersonal and communication skills and computer knowledge.
Minimum qualifications: Associates degree in a human service or business-related field preferred. Or, 2 years of relevant employment or a combination of education and employment from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
