Responsibilities
Peer Support Services are consumer centered services with a rehabilitation and recovery focus designed to promote skills for coping with and managing psychiatric symptoms while facilitating the utilization of natural resources and the enhancement of community living skills. Activities included must be intended to achieve the identified goals or objectives as set forth in the consumer’s individualized treatment plan. The structured, scheduled activities provided by this service emphasize the opportunity for consumers to support each other in the restoration and expansion of the skills and strategies necessary to move forward in recovery. Peer Support Service is a face-to-face intervention with the consumer present. Services can be provided individually or in a group setting. The majority of Recovery Specialist contacts must occur in community locations where the person lives, works, attends school, and/or socializes. Hours of Peer Support Services will be in response to client need. The Recovery Specialist will receive training that includes, but is not limited to, an orientation to mental illness, medications, general treatment approaches, attendant care activities, dealing with emergency needs, basic counseling skills, CPR, First Aid, MAB, Suicide Assessment, Working with Addicts and Professional Standards and Ethics. In addition must complete a state approved standardized basic training program. Individual must self identify as a present or former consumer of mental health services.
Job Requirements
This position requires:
High school diploma or GED required as well as 1 year of experience working with individuals with mental illness. In addition, the individual must be 18 years of age or older; be able to pass a KBI security check and an SRS Child and Adult Abuse Registry check. Must have reliable transportation with auto insurance required. This position requires knowledge of basic computer skills. Must be able to complete required WSU online trainings and program trainings. This position requires excellent organizational skills; the ability to be responsible and work independently; the ability to maintain flexibility and dependability in work schedule; positive interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be able to perform day-to-day physical requirements of the position, including but not limited to- 20% of scheduled time; data entry, answering the phone and computer work, 80% of scheduled time; ability to lift up to 25 pounds, frequently moving around the building and community, as well as repetitive moving, carrying and lifting as the job demands. Individual must self identify as a present or former consumer of mental health services and model successful recovery strategies. This position requires you to provide Peer Support services with using personal transportation or transporting clients.
Salary Range
$16.54 – $18.15 – $21.13
Hours
Will be in response to client need.
