We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Referral Coordinator to join our healthcare team. This role is essential in facilitating patient referrals to specialists and ensuring a smooth transition of care. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding, and experience in various healthcare settings. The Referral Coordinator will play a crucial role in coordinating patient care, managing referral processes, and maintaining communication between patients and healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient referrals to specialists and ensure timely scheduling of appointments.
- Maintain accurate records of referrals, including tracking the status and follow-up on pending referrals.
- Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies regarding referral processes.
- Verify insurance eligibility and obtain necessary authorizations for referrals.
- Assist in the management of patient information systems to ensure data accuracy and compliance with privacy regulations.
- Provide support for patients navigating the healthcare system, including answering questions about procedures and services.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure continuity of care for patients transitioning between different levels of service.
- Stay updated on medical coding practices related to referrals and procedures.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, particularly in roles involving patient coordination or administrative support.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and vital signs is essential.
- Familiarity with coding practices related to dermatology, geriatrics, urgent care, and medical-surgical services is a plus.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems or similar software is advantageous.
