Job Summary:
Valley Animal Center, a leading no-kill animal shelter, is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Manager to lead our fundraising, donor relations, and community outreach efforts. This key role involves creating and implementing strategies to grow individual and corporate giving, organize impactful events, and expand our network of supporters. As the face of Valley Animal Center in the community, you will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability and success. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, proactive individual with exceptional communication and organizational skills, a passion for animal welfare, and a track record in fundraising and donor cultivation.

Key Responsibilities
Fundraising and Development
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan that aligns with the shelter’s mission, goals, and values.
- Build and strengthen relationships with individual donors, corporations, and foundations through targeted cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts.
- Develop and manage a major gifts program, including identifying, nurturing, and soliciting high-value donors to support Valley Animal Center’s mission.
- Diversify and expand the shelter’s funding sources to ensure financial sustainability and growth.
- Oversee the planning, budgeting, and execution of fundraising events, including both in-person and online campaigns.
- Create and implement direct-mail campaigns, thank-you notes, donor acknowledgment letters, and other communication tools to maintain strong relationships with donors.
- Secure sponsorships and in-kind donations for fundraising activities and events.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor information in the donor database (DonorView) and develop internal procedures to optimize donor data use.
- Analyze fundraising trends and reports to assess performance and make data-driven decisions.
Community Outreach and Engagement
- Represent Valley Animal Center at networking events, business mixers, and community gatherings to raise awareness and cultivate new donor relationships.
- Organize and manage informational booths at community, student, and non-profit events to promote Valley Animal Center’s programs and fundraising activities.
- Increase community engagement by seeking speaking opportunities with civic groups, schools, churches, businesses, and other organizations.
Additional Duties
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the Executive Director to further the goals of the organization.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven experience in developing, organizing, and executing successful fundraising campaigns, events, and donor programs.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse groups of people.
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated success in building and managing donor relationships.
- Strong attention to detail and effective time management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and confidence.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for events.
- Willingness to travel to attend events, meetings, and training.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. and participate in event-related physical activities.
- Must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, and Safe Sport training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Established relationships with regional media outlets and experience working with the local philanthropic community.
- Previous experience in non-profit organizations, especially in fundraising, development, or communications.
- Familiarity with donor database software, preferably DonorView.
