NATURE OF WORK: The Accounting Assistant is responsible for providing support to multiple positions in the accounting department and by doing so assures that daily business transactions are recorded timely & accurately.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Prepares daily and/or weekly reports to be sent to management and supervisors.
• Records cash receipts for use of cash application and back reconciliations.
• Assists with maintaining and reporting for client payee accounts.
• Prepares and support accounts payable schedules or entries and purchasing.
• Records and batches credit card receipts, including communication with supervisors to obtain receipts.
• Assists with monthly closing process, including preparing schedules, entering journal entries, and assisting with financial reporting.
• Prepares reconciliations of asset and liability accounts on a monthly basis to ensure validity and completeness.
• Prepares and gets approval of monthly general ledger entries, prepares and posts standard and recurring monthly entries, including adjustments, and closing entries.
• Other Reconciliations and account analysis as requested.
• Other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to perform Essential Duties as outlined below. • High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or working towards an accounting/finance related degree.
• Related work experience in areas such as accounting, book & record keeping, finance, accounts receivable & accounts payable.
• Proficient in the of use of Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with individuals of the organization and departments of state government.
• Must demonstrate integrity & can comply with confidentiality concerning client rights & HIPAA regulations.
• Possess strong attention to detail & accuracy.
• Possess organizational & time management skills.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Demonstrates the ability to manage a variety of projects while meeting deadlines.
• Ability to work with limited direct supervision.
• Ability to comply with Valley’s and Division departmental safety procedures
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principle (GAAP).
• Proficient in computer & software skills including MS Office Suite
