NATURE OF WORK: The Accounting Assistant is responsible for providing support to multiple positions in the accounting department and by doing so assures that daily business transactions are recorded timely & accurately.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Prepares daily and/or weekly reports to be sent to management and supervisors.
Records cash receipts for use of cash application and back reconciliations.
Assists with maintaining and reporting for client payee accounts.
Prepares and support accounts payable schedules or entries and purchasing.
Records and batches credit card receipts, including communication with supervisors to obtain receipts.
Assists with monthly closing process, including preparing schedules, entering journal entries, and assisting with financial reporting.
Prepares reconciliations of asset and liability accounts on a monthly basis to ensure validity and completeness.
Prepares and gets approval of monthly general ledger entries, prepares and posts standard and recurring monthly entries, including adjustments, and closing entries.
Other Reconciliations and account analysis as requested.
Other work-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to perform Essential Duties as outlined below. High School Graduate or equivalent.
Bachelors degree in accounting or working towards an accounting/finance related degree.
Related work experience in areas such as accounting, book & record keeping, finance, accounts receivable & accounts payable.
Proficient in the of use of Microsoft Excel.
Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with individuals of the organization and departments of state government.
Must demonstrate integrity & can comply with confidentiality concerning client rights & HIPAA regulations.
Possess strong attention to detail & accuracy.
Possess organizational & time management skills.
Ability to multi-task.
Demonstrates the ability to manage a variety of projects while meeting deadlines.
Ability to work with limited direct supervision.
Ability to comply with Valleys and Division departmental safety procedures
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in accounting.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principle (GAAP).
Proficient in computer & software skills including MS Office Suite
