What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing/Coding Specialist position at Valley Eye Associates?
Full time position open in our growing optometry practice. The Billing/Coding Specialist is responsible for collecting, posting and managing account payments, and for submitting claims and following up with insurance companies.
- Maintaining patient financial records, which includes detailing patient treatments and diagnoses as well as updating payment and medical insurance information.
- Sorting and distributing incoming EOB’s, EFT’s, payments, and other financial documents to the appropriate teams in a timely manner.
- Processing patient payments and refunds.
- Answers questions from patients and insurance companies
- Identifying medical coding mistakes, typing errors, as well as patient underpayments or over-payments and rectifying them accordingly.
- Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints
- Reviews patient statements to be sent out
- Creating suitable payment plans for patients based on their monthly income and financial obligations.
- Contacting patients through email, written correspondence, or telephone to inform them of overdue balances.
- Communicating with medical insurance providers to verify whether patient treatments will be covered.
- Answering patients’ questions regarding unsettled medical bills, reimbursements, and billing discrepancies.
- Follows and reports status of delinquent accounts
- Makes recommendations for delinquent accounts to be forwarded to collection agencies
- Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers
- Processes payments from insurance companies
- Investigates and corrects rejected and denied claims
- Maintains strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations
- Ophthalmology/Optometry experience preferred, but not required.
- Experience with billing Medicare, Medicaid, VA, and Tricare preferred.
- Other duties as assigned.
We work Tuesday through Friday from 8am to 6pm (10 hour shifts). Our days off are Saturday through Monday.
