Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Billing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the billing process, ensuring accuracy in medical coding, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and coding systems, including ICD-10 and ICD-9, as well as experience with medical collections. The Billing Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting our Ophthalmology medical office operations by ensuring timely and accurate billing practices.
Responsibilities
- Process and manage patient billing and collections efficiently.
- Review and verify medical records for accuracy in coding.
- Utilize ICD-10, ICD-9, and DRG coding systems to ensure proper billing.
- Communicate with healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies in billing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology and coding practices.
- Assist in the management of accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding claims.
- Generate reports related to billing activities and collections.
- Collaborate with the medical office team and billing manager to improve billing processes.
- Track all prior authorizations and lead the referral management process
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing or a similar role within a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with medical coding systems including ICD-10, ICD-9, DRG, and other relevant coding practices.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and its application in billing processes.
- Experience with medical collections is highly desirable.
- Proficient in using billing software and systems relevant to the healthcare industry.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
- Prior experience using modernizing medicine EMR is highly desired but can be trained
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
