Job Description
The Radiation Coding Specialist will be responsible for all administrative aspects of patient treatment by verifying and maintaining updated insurance coverage, liaison between hospital staff and patient accounting. Responsible for obtaining all pre authorizations for all services and tests related to Radiation Oncology. Liaison between hospital billing and denial management providing letters and supporting documentations for all related appeals. Obtains referrals and pre authorizations by the insurance carrier for patient visits and or treatment as wells as tests and procedures. Pre authorizations as required by the insurance carriers. Communicates with the physician and clinical staff on reimbursement issues and/or pre certification requirements by insurance carriers. Ensures up to date documentation on patient’s accounts. Communicates openly with clinical staff to ensure accurate charges. Responsible for the editing, scanning and distribution of all transcription. Responsible for the management of the physician and therapist on call schedule monthly. Responsible for all medical record releases as well as completion of any FMLA or disability claim paperwork. Responsible for supporting the front desk and providing relief coverage when necessary, including assisting in monthly registration for Radiation Oncology as well as registering new patients.
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Associates preferred
Certification & Licensures
Radiation Oncology Coding Certification required, or obtain within three years of hire
Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of filing systems and methods, computers, and other common office equipment.
