What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Internship position at Valley Metro?
The Valley Metro Communications Internship is designed to provide an introduction into communications at a public transportation agency. Typical duties include but are not limited to assisting with development of press releases, public relations campaign support, creating communications for social media channels, assisting with agency events and community outreach, video production including staff and rider interviews, and other duties as assigned. In addition, he or she may perform entry-level professional communications.
This internship will be part-time temporary (commitment to work up to 19.5 hours per week during the school year as schedules are flexible to accommodate full-time course load). May include some evening and weekend hours.
Background Investigation:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check.
Position requires valid Driver's License.

Has experience and strong desire to capture transit rider moments in photography and on video, edit and post on communications outlets.
May draft press releases and pitch events to media.
Writes copy for various external and internal communications.
Coordinates and participates in special event planning, campaigns and agency publicity events.
Researches and creates information to the media and public on public information campaigns. Monitors and creates social media posts.
Develops ideas and creates short videos for social posting.
Supports digital communications projects to support public relations initiatives.Physical Demands:
Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, driving, grasping, talking, hearing and seeing.
Work Environment:
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
