What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard (5:40am to 12:15pm) - Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA position at VALLEY OF THE SUN YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION?

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A LIFEGUARD:
- Maintains active surveillance of the pool area; including all levels of the water and surrounding areas.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.
- Responds to challenges with practical solutions in a timely manner.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
- Conveys basic program information to members and identify potential volunteers.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
- Maintain, clean and stock designated facility areas (dusting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows, restrooms, etc.)
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
- Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service training; trains and supervises junior lifeguards as assigned.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A LIFEGUARD:
- Minimum age of 16
- Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
- Good health and physical stamina
- A friendly, enthusiastic attitude
- Ability to maintain calm manner in stressful and/or emergency situations
