What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor - Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA (4pm-7pm T/TH & 8am-1pm Saturday) position at VALLEY OF THE SUN YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION?

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SWIM INSTRUCTOR:
- Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with Y guidelines, aligned with the Y-USA curriculum.
- Prepare session and lesson plans accordingly for all classes and levels taught, adjust as needed.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers to other available programs.
- Maintains records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, incident reports, etc.).
- Follows all policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
- Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged or needed equipment.
- Serves as a role model to participants and lives the vision and values of the YMCA movement.
- Create a mission-based environment which enables everyone to be engaged in the YMCA movement.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service training; trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A SWIM INSTRUCTOR:
- Minimum age of 16.
- Ability to maintain a level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Ability to intentionally incorporate the YMCA Program Goals into each session of swim lessons.
- Ability to effectively communicate information with members, peers, and supervisors.
- Must be observant, safety conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
- Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, and make quick decisions under stress.
- Immediately notify the appropriate staff of any broken equipment or unsafe aspects of the pool.
