About Us

Valo Health is a technology company that is integrating human-centric data and AI-powered technology to accelerate the creation of life-changing drugs for more patients faster. Valo was created with the belief that the drug discovery and development process can and should be faster and less expensive, with a much higher probability of success. We are using models early to fail less often, executing clinical trials to add valuation to the company, and generating fit-for-purpose data to feed back into Valo's Opal Computational Platform™ as we reinvent drug discovery and development from the ground up. Disease doesn't wait, so neither can we.

We are a multi-disciplinary team of experts in science, technology, and pharmaceuticals united in our mission to achieve better drugs for patients faster. Valo is committed to hiring diverse talent, prioritizing growth and development, fostering an inclusive environment, and creating opportunities to bring together a group of different experiences, backgrounds, and voices to work together. We achieve the widest-ranging impact when we leverage our broad backgrounds and perspectives to accelerate a new frontier in health. Valo seeks to become the catalyst for the pharmaceutical industry and drive the digital transformation of the industry. Are you ready to join us?

About the Role

We are looking for a computationally savvy biologist who is excited to apply both their biological and computational skills towards target discovery and prioritization efforts. As a member of a cross-functional team of biologists and data scientists, an ideal candidate will have experience defining and evaluating biological hypotheses using computational approaches (as an individual contributor and through deep collaborations with data science experts) and communicating biological insights to scientists with diverse backgrounds / expertise. This role sits at the interface of preclinical biology and translational data science and therefore requires an interdisciplinary mind set and exceptional communication skills.

What You'll Do...

  • Contribute to the identification and prioritization of novel targets across multiple therapeutic areas (including cardiovascular disease and obesity) using human-centric, computationally enabled approaches
  • Define and prioritize biological research questions and relevant data sources to support target discovery efforts
  • Perform feasibility assessments and exploratory analyses on internal and / or public data sources to support new research questions
  • Collaborate with data scientist colleagues to refine computational approaches and develop new methods
  • Interpret, summarize, and present biological insights to internal and external scientific audiences

What You Bring...

  • BS (10 years of experience), MS (6 years of experience), or PhD (2 years of experience) in cell / molecular biology, computational biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, or related discipline
  • Domain knowledge in cell / molecular biology of inflammation or metabolism (with preference for those with experience in cardiovascular disease or obesity indications)
  • Proven track record communicating complex biological questions and results to diverse stakeholders (as evident through peer-reviewed original publications, oral presentations at scientific meetings, and / or teaching record)
  • Proficient in R and / or Python, including code versioning
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary environments
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Outstanding cross-functional collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting -omics data (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and / or metabolomics) is a plus
  • Experience with cloud-based data warehouses (e.g., AWS, Snowflake, etc.) is a plus
  • Familiarity with public data sources (e.g., GEO, LINCS, etc.) is a plus
  • Familiarity with real-world data sources (e.g., EHR, claims, disease registries, etc.) is a plus
